Chicago Corporate Housing Hunting Guide

By Rosemary McDonough

Finding Windy City accommodations is as easy as pie, but it can get very complicated for those who want to sort through all the options and find the best place to stay. Even limiting the choices to Chicago corporate housing doesn't make it all that easy. The price and the location of the property are key issues, and there's a huge selection within these parameters with varying space, furnishings, facilities and amenities.

A good place to start is the choice of location. A lot of business executives in Chicago prefer to stay in the Loop, or at least close to it. Other areas worth looking at nearby include the Near South Side, Near North Side and Near West Side.

These four areas together make up Chicago's downtown. Most people who need short-term rentals for a couple of weeks or months will be staying somewhere in one of these neighborhoods. It puts them close to all the major offices and meetings spaces and reduces commute hassles.

People staying here will be slam-bang in the middle of all the urban pleasures, culture and entertainment offered by one of the world's most vibrant cities. Another point worth remembering is to look for a property as close to the waterfront as possible. It's not just about the view, but also direct access to bike paths by the lakeshore and other such facilities along the waterfront.

The vast and open spaces of Grant Park offer one more reason for the Loop being so desirable. There are many such factors, but the choice of location is ultimately based on the visitor's itinerary and workplace. Once that is sorted out, the price will differ based on things such as the space available and the number of rooms (studio apartments, 1, 2 or 3-bedrooms, etc.).

Almost every property in Chicago that is listed as available for short-term rentals offers unlimited local calls and wireless internet, in addition to HD TV with cable in all the bedrooms and the living room. Renters may expect to see DVD players, music systems and washer/dryers. Fully equipped baths and kitchens with all the appliances and utilities one needs in a home will be provided.

It's important to ask beforehand about parking and other common use facilities. A family with children and a pet may also want to find out about the landlord's pet policy and availability of housekeepers and other staff such as drivers and nannies. Follow this simple checklist to find the right corporate housing in Chicago and make the stay comfortable and hassle-free.
